There is something missing

 There is something missing. I cannot point my finger on it, but something is amiss.

It was not running properly, goals and deadlines missed, and I thought I had the culprit figured it out. It took a while, some bargaining and quite some time, but the great blocker was out, albeit momentarily. I thought that with that out of the way everything was going to be smooth sailing.

But no, I was so wrong. Things have gotten even more out of hand. The previous obstacle at least was known and quantifiable. A known problem, and the countermeasures were already in place. It was far from perfect, but at least everything was advancing. Some efforts were diverted to deal with the obstacle, and the rest on progressing. The real issue was that more and more manpower was diverted to feed its unquenchable thirst for time. And thus, a resolution was made, the demons locked away for some time. A time I was hoping to use to correct course, strength the defenses and be more prepared the next time they arrive, so it will be much less problematic.

That was not what happened. The plan was that parties dispatched to deal with that will help the progress of the main goals. But no. They like only side duties, and with their regular target gone, they just went out, looking for new obstacles, even spending more resources, more treats on their new expeditions.

I hope that there is still time. Time to recover. Time to reconvene those resources that went rogue and convert them to hardworking laborers. Maybe I was orienting everything wrong. Maybe I should go to the old places of power, to plan and think. Just like I am doing right now. And also try to find new ones. Resume regular duties and try to step up little by little, instead of trying to get all accomplished at once. Choose your battles, try to maintain that you have already build and when things go well try to get the next step. Do not be inflexible, people like to eat, dance and drink. Know when to cede and when not to. Build, one brick at a time. Get a solid foundation and a flexible building.
